Constitution
LRAA Constitution
Article I
The name of this association shall be the La
Raza Alumni Association of the University of Delaware.
Article II
The La Raza Alumni Association of the University
of Delaware shall be supportive of the Campus Alliance of La Raza and its
campus and regional allies, such as the Black Student Union and the Black
Alumni Association. The La Raza Alumni Association of the University
of Delaware shall promote the following objectives:

Fundraise for the La Raza Center Endowment Fund;

Recruit minority students for the University of Delaware;
-
Network for job placement;
-
Role model for University of Delaware students;
-
Internship Development for minority students;
-
Offer expertise to La Raza undergraduate Executive
Boards;
-
Foster social and intellectual development of La
Raza members;
-
Work to maintain unity and promote unity among the
African American, Latino and other communities
Article III
The La Raza Alumni Association of the University
of Delaware shall consist of all La Raza members and Latino students who
graduate from the University of Delaware and shall be members without election.
The
Board of Directors may also vote to formally induct non-alumni, who will
be recognized as Honorary Association Members.
Article IV
There shall be a Board of Directors/Steering
Committee of the La Raza Alumni Association of the University of Delaware
consisting of up to 25 members who shall be elected to two-year terms.
The Officers of this Association shall be members
of the Steering Committee and shall be as follows: Co-Chair Persons, secretary,
and treasurer, each elected to serve two-year terms, and class agent(s)
who may be undergraduate CALR officers and shall be appointed.
Steering Committee members shall be selected in
a fashion that will provide maximum representation of the larger body,
with attention to degree program, gender, denomination, region, and class
affiliation.
The Executive Committee shall consist of the Co-Chairs,
the Treasurer, the Secretary, and Committee Chairs.
Graduate Student Advisors for the CALR are automatically
members of the LRAA Steering Committee and shall remain members, with the
approval of the LRAA Chairs, for their tenure at the University of Delaware.
Graduate Student Advisors do not count towards the seat limit on the Board
of Directors.
The CALR President shall have voting powers in
the LRAA for his/her entire tenure at the University of Delaware.
No other undergraduate shall have voting powers within this body.
Five subcommittees shall provide financial leadership,
alumni outreach, projects activity, governance and CALR expansion oversight
as follows:

a. Development: This committee shall provide
the leadership and project activity for fundraising. Major efforts will
focus on the continued growth of the La Raza Center Endowment Fund and
other projects essential to the needs of minority students.

b. Outreach: This committee shall be responsible
for recruiting LRAA community allies and providing outreach to La Raza/Latino
alumni in an effort to leverage our collective resources for the common
good.

c. Projects: This committee shall explore
the various service needs of La Raza, minority alumni/ae, and minority
students and develop recommendations concerning appropriate programming,
needed resources, and a priority plan for the phasing-in of the projects.
The LRAA will seek further to heighten the sensitivity and consciousness
of the University of Delaware community to its interaction with Latino
and other communities.

d. Governance: This committee shall promote
cooperation within the broader alumni/ae body and shall determine the rules
which will make the most effective use of the LRAA. The committee will
also serve as the Nominating Committee.

e. CALR Expansion: This committee shall provide
oversight to the CALR network and expansion initiatives.
Article V
The quarterly meetings for business shall be
whenever possible in January, April, July, and October and shall have the
following purposes:

Election of officers and members of the Board of
Directors/Steering Committee;

Hearing of appropriate reports; and
-
Holding such additional meetings, programs, etc.
as deemed appropriate to stimulate growth, edification, and fellowship
of the La Raza Alumni Association.
Article VI
Expenses of the LRAA may be defrayed by contributions
by individuals, governments, nonprofits, or entities within the private
sector.
Article VII
Any two members of the Executive Committee may
suspend the term of a board member with just cause.
Article VIII
This constitution may be altered in the following
manner: A resolution embracing the proposed amendment may be offered at
a quarterly meeting, and upon the resolution being adopted by two-thirds
of the members present, and contingent upon subsequent ratification by
50 percent of the membership voting, the Amendment shall be part of this
Constitution.
